A homeowner here in Walsall got in touch with me recently because they wanted an old gas fire taken out. The fire had been sitting in the living room for years and they were ready to move on from it. How the Job Was Done

When I arrived at the property, I took a look at the existing setup. The fire was connected to the gas supply through a pipe in the chimney breast. Before anything else, I isolated the gas to make sure there was no risk while I worked.

I then disconnected the fire from the gas supply and removed the unit itself. Once the fire was out, I capped off the gas pipe. Capping off means sealing the pipe so no gas can escape from it. It is a straightforward but critical step. I also checked that everything was tight and there were no leaks before I left the property.

The whole job was completed neatly. The homeowner was left with a clear space where the fire had been, and the gas pipe was safely sealed and out of the way.
